How pharmacists perceive their professional identity: a scoping review and discursive analysis

Abstract Objectives The objectives of this scoping review were to (a) explore how pharmacists perceive their professional roles and identities (b) describe factors impacting which or embody in different pharmacy practice settings. Methods A using a deductive approach was undertaken for study. Systematic searches conducted five databases: Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, EBSCO Cumulative Index Nursing Allied Health Scopus (Elsevier). Key words searched included pharmacist, identity, role one variations these. Results double-blind screened relevance by two authors. Data extraction facilitated the web-based software platform COVIDENCE. Foucauldian critical discourse analysis used deconstruct identities. findings In total, 21 701 articles retrieved search. Following de-duplication screening, 23 studies from 11 countries included. Five major identity themes identified: Clinician, Dispenser, Business Person, Patient Counsellor Physician Supporter. dispenser most widespread, but it viewed many as undesirable. clinician also had strong presence an that aspire embody.
